Democratic Training 101
(or, Sarah Beth teaches Pa how to get noticed in Washington)

Sarah Beth and Pa are in the final hours of their trip brainwashing adventure in Washington. Today, Sarah Beth was quoted as saying that the Postal Museum was "interesting." This was the "big" night - "Congressional Dinner." Sarah Beth was the only under twenty one year old in attendence apparently, and carried herself quite well. She ate the clams and shrimp without protest, and carried her ice cream dish around the room with her as she mingled. Would someone please tell me who taught my child to say, "it's so nice to meet you" ? Oh yes - I almost forgot about her degree in Fletcher Charm. So anyway. Apparently the child was so well behaved, charming and gracious (you have heard her Macon, Georgia accent haven't you?) that they were invited to a small breakfast in the morning with some congressional people and John Kerry. Dang. Pa does all this lobbying, golfing, and so on for the democratic cause and all he had to really do was take his granddaughter to Washington to get noticed. They even bumped their flight till later tomorrow to attend. I told Sarah Beth to be sure and wear the cute hat I packed for her... and those great earrings. Imagine.

This ought to take years to undo. Damn.
